Privacy
Policy

EarthXLab uses only the information needed to provide accounts, save learning progress, and improve the mission experience. Last updated · August 21, 2026

What this policy covers

This policy explains how EarthXLab collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you visit the site, create an account, sign in, or complete a planetary learning mission.

Information we collect

Account information

If you register with email, we collect your email address, an account name, and authentication information. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are not visible to EarthXLab.

Google account information

If you choose Continue with Google, Google provides the basic profile information needed to create and identify your EarthXLab account, such as your name, email address, and account identifier. EarthXLab does not request access to Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, contacts, or other Google services.

Learning and usage information

We may record mission progress events, including the planet and mission selected, stages opened or completed, assessment responses and scores, and certificate actions. We do not use these events to build advertising profiles.

Profiles and achievements

When you sign in, EarthXLab creates an explorer profile with a generated username. You can change that username. Achievement progress is calculated from mission activity such as planets explored, missions started, activities completed, assessments finished, and certificates viewed.

Some work—including temporary drawing marks, observation notes, and a certificate display name—is stored in your browser so the mission can work. Browser-stored information may disappear if you clear site data.

Technical information

Our hosting and analytics services may receive standard technical information such as browser type, device type, referring page, approximate region, page views, and diagnostic data.

How we use information

  • Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
  • Provide missions, assessments, certificates, and learning progress.
  • Understand which parts of the experience work and improve them.
  • Prevent misuse, investigate errors, and protect the service.
  • Meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use Google account information for advertising.

How information is shared

We share information only with service providers that help operate EarthXLab, including Neon for authentication and database services, Vercel for hosting and site analytics, and Google when you choose Google Sign-In. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments.

If you share your public profile link, anyone with that link can see your display name, username, account join date, achievement statuses, and the number of achievements completed or in progress. Your email address, assessment answers, drawings, notes, and raw mission activity are not shown on the public profile.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or in connection with a business transfer. We do not share Google user data with data brokers or advertisers.

Storage and retention

Account and mission activity information may be stored for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward when needed for security, backups, or legal obligations. Browser-only mission data remains on your device until it is replaced or cleared.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices

You can use email sign-in instead of Google, sign out at any time, clear browser-stored data through your browser settings, and request access to or deletion of account information. To make a privacy or account request, email kaan.guluzada@gmail.com.

Revoking Google access stops future Google sign-in authorization, but it does not automatically delete your EarthXLab account. Contact us if you also want the EarthXLab account deleted.

Children and learners

EarthXLab is an educational experience. Younger learners should use it with a parent, guardian, or educator where required. Please do not submit sensitive personal information in mission notes or other free-form fields.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as EarthXLab changes. The date at the top will show the latest revision. Material changes to how Google user data is handled will be reflected here before the new practice begins.

Questions about this policy can be sent to kaan.guluzada@gmail.com.
